09 May 2017 Internet Filtering Thank you Shehaamah for this topic, it is very serious especially in public libraries and it should be prevented.  I spoke with my colleague on smartcape section  on how can pornography videos and pictures be blocked and what would be the challenges.  He told me that the site is blocked however the problem is that people use different names to get to  it and there is one pornography site released every week.  I think the IT's should keep an eye on weekly basis and set the restriction on new release. Below is more information about libraries and "internet filtering" from Google Library web filtering removes info access for vulnerable, says shushing collective Both pro- and anti-filter advocates thinking of the kids 5 Jan 2016 at 10:31, Alexan

4 April 2017 QR CODES I must admit, I have never paid attention to these codes thinking that its just a label, didn't know there is too much information on it.  It's very interesting because after the class I recognise these codes, they're every where but never before. I was sharing with my Senior the other day and she told me that we have a lot of books that has QR codes on, and I started searching for those books.  I was like a child searching for a treasure hunt with my phone in hand. The nice thing about these classes they are all related with what we do at work therefore we can't keep the information to ourselves but sharing it with our colleagues to pass it on to library users, we get input and learn more from them as well. I browsed to Google for more information on QR codes and I found nice explanation of the use of QR codes on Wikipedia. QR codes have become common in consumer advertising. Typically, a smartphone is used as a

2 May 2017   We had a very interesting topics on Tuesday, 2 May: Audicity Internet archive Lib success 23 things Digitisation and Presentation and touch up on Internet filtering   All the topics were very interesting however the lib success was the one that stood out for me, very informative especially for us librarian because we don't always have the information that our customers need because of limited stock and space in libraries,  the Lecturer also mentioned that she help the customer with the project on Timbuktu using "Lib success" , we also have the limited stock on that, so should you get stuck "Lib success is the way to go"   OH! and I like practical work more   DIGITISATION Digitization is the process of converting information into a digital format . In this format, information is organized into discrete units of data (called bit s) that can be separately addressed (usually in multiple-bit groups called byte s).

25 April 2017   An eBook is an electronic version of a traditional print book that can be read by using a personal computer or by using an eBook reader. (An eBook reader can be a software application for use on a computer, such as Microsoft's free Reader application, or a book-sized computer that is used solely as a reading device, such as Nuvomedia's Rocket eBook Rocket .) Users can purchase an eBook on diskette or CD, but the most popular method of getting an eBook is to purchase a downloadable file of the eBook (or other reading material) from a Web site (such as Barnes and Noble) to be read from the user's computer or reading device. Generally, an eBook can be downloaded in five minutes or less.  http://searchmobilecomputing.techtarget.com/definition/eBook Some eBooks can be downloaded for free or at reduced cost, however, prices for many eBooks - especially bestsellers - are similar to those of hardcover books, and are sometimes higher. Reflection

My Reflection on ICT's I thought I know a lot about ICT's until I attended classes, only to find out that there too little that I know about technology and libraries. So much that I wish the public libraries can offer Internal trainings on ICT's, there is still a lot that as librarians must know, that would be of benefit to both librarians and the users. Very interesting and helpful

ICT AND LIBRARIES

Traditional Libraries vs Digital Libraries Are traditional Libraries dead? Can today's traditional libraries be able to survive the onslaught of digital or visual libraries?  One can answer yes or no depending on the locality, but the majority of African libraries in real crisis and their future seems very bleak. http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article . I disagree that the library or librarians future seems very bleak, both digital and traditional libraries play an important role in the information use.  One will find out that other users prefer using traditional libraries instead of digital libraries especially the elders and those coming from disadvantages communities.  There are also users that prefer to use both methods, printed and electronic format to compare information. I agree with Ogunsola, L.A. (2004) that although the development of digital libraries means that people don't have to go to a building for some kind of information, users
